On 17 February 2026, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Ludwig M. Eichinger, visiting professor at the Department of German Studies of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava, delivered a public lecture entitled German – A European Language in 2026.
This year′s edition of the German-Czech Cultural Days – THE CULTURAL POINT – offered a varied and rich programme that attracted numerous visitors and received very positive feedback. Dr Milan Pišl officially opened the entire festival of German-language culture on 8 October 2025 at the Komůrka Club in Ostrava.
On March 18, 2025, the Faculty of Arts hosted the formal closing of the translation competition A Day with Translation, which was unique for two reasons: firstly, it marked the 20th anniversary of the event and secondly, it featured a completely new format.
The Department of German Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava, held its 30th annual Student Research Conference this year. The event was officially opened by the Vice-Dean for Science and Research, Prof. Mgr. Marek Otisk, Ph.D., and, as per tradition, was moderated by the Head of the Department, doc. Martin Mostýn.
From September 11 to 13, 2025, Germanists from Ostrava participated in the international conference "Linguistische Treffen in Wroclaw" in Poland.
