31st Annual Student Research Conference of the Department of German Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava
On 21 April 2026, the Department of German Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava, hosted the 31st annual Student Research Conference. This year′s conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, prof. Mgr. Robert Antonín, Ph.D., and chaired by doc. Mgr. Martin Mostýn, Ph.D.
Students presented their papers in the fields of linguistics, literary studies, business German, and translation studies. The expert panel awarded the best presentations to Ms Jana Havlišová BA for her paper entitled Johann Heinrich Friedrich Müller und sein Theaterweg zwischen Gottsched und Lessing, to Ms Kateřina Šuhajová MA for her paper entitled “Sex mit dem Universum” – ausgewählte Übersetzungsprobleme and to Ms Lorraine Vivienne Kaluscha for her paper entitled Personal- und Kundenpolitik bei Mercedes Ostrava – Auswertung der Umfrage.
The field of diachronic linguistics was traditionally also represented, with contributions competing for the František Schwarz Award. The work of Ms Michelle Ivana Krell BA and Ms Tereza Vojvodíková BA entitled Lebensratschläge in frühneuhochdeutschen Handschriften and of Ms Lucie Lachová BA entitled Ein Blick in den Topf des Mittelalters: Eine linguistische Analyse des Rezepts “Blamansier” aus dem “Buoch von guoter Spise” was evaluated as the most outstanding.
The awards were presented to the students by Mr doc. Ing. Jiří Schwarz, CSc., who, in his closing remarks, expressed his appreciation for the high quality of all presented papers.
The high number of presenters, the wide thematic range of contributions, and the stimulating discussion that followed demonstrate the department′s strong support for research and the student′s sustained interest in scholarly inquiry.
