Studia Romanistica is a scholarly journal dedicated to publishing original studies on the linguistics, translation, literature, and culture of Romance-speaking countries. The journal primarily focuses on French-, Spanish-, and Italian-speaking regions. It also publishes reviews of scholarly publications and reports on conferences and significant events in the field of Romance linguistics and literature.
The journal covers a wide range of linguistic topics, including phonology, morphology, lexicology, semantics, syntax, and terminology, from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives. It also publishes translation studies and studies in cognitive, comparative, and corpus linguistics, pragmalinguistics, sociolinguistics, and the teaching of Romance languages.
Within traditional fields such as literary history (including comparative literary studies), literary theory, and literary criticism, the journal welcomes submissions proposing interdisciplinary approaches. These may explore, for instance, the relationship between literary works and sociology or psychology. Research into the reader's reception of literary texts, as well as the relationship between literature and memory or post-memory, also fall within the journal's scope.
Contributions are published mainly in Spanish, French, and Italian, with other Romance languages also accepted. Comparative studies may be written in Czech or Slovak. Each article is accompanied by two abstracts: one in the language of the article and the other in English.
Submissions undergo an anonymous peer review process. The editorial board requests at least two independent reviews by experts in the relevant field. In cases of significant disagreement between reviewers, a third review may be requested (for detailed information, see the Peer-Review Process section under Publication Ethics).
Studia Romanistica continues the tradition of the collected papers published by the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava under the same name, as part of the Acta Facultatis Philosophicae Universitatis Ostraviensis. The first volume was published in 1999. From the second volume, published in 2002, Studia Romanistica was published annually, and since 2009, it has been published biannually.
The journal is indexed in the databases of scientific journals SCOPUS, ERIH PLUS, EBSCO, Brill Linguistic Bibliography, MIAR, Index Copernicus International, and DOAJ. All articles published in the journal are assigned a DOI identifier.
There are no fees for submitting, processing, or publishing manuscripts. All content is available free of charge. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, and refer to full-text articles in the journal without prior permission from the publisher or the author.
