Research

The Department of Sociology focuses on applied research (qualitative and quantitative) in the fields of social pathology (homelessness), the sociology of migration (images of foreigners in the (social) media), phenomenology and sociological theory. We also conduct research for official authorities and companies seeking information on satisfaction levels among customers and citizens.

Research projects at the Department (past and present):

Czech Republic Technology Agency:

Diagnostics of management competencies in extraordinary crisis situations

Project co-coordinator: University of Ostrava, Faculty of Arts, Department of Sociology, PhDr. Marek Schneider, Ph.D.

The project creates a diagnostic system to identify key competencies (personal, professional, physical, social) for crisis management tasks in organizations. The application of this certified methodology will enable the identification of managers who are able to take on responsibility when dealing with sudden events which disrupt systemic stability and represent a potential threat to safety or life – as well as supporting the future career development of these managers.
