Lecture by Prof. Eichinger „German – a European Language in 2026“

On 17 February 2026, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Ludwig M. Eichinger, visiting professor at the Department of German Studies of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava, delivered a public lecture entitled German – A European Language in 2026. In his lecture, Prof. Eichinger pointed out that linguistic conditions in the world have changed significantly since the time when German played an important role in a number of European countries. At the same time, he reflected on the current position of German in Europe, the opportunities that the mastering of the German language offers, and its development in those parts of Europe where it has traditionally held a significant place. Students of German Studies and guests from secondary schools thus had the opportunity to hear one of the most distinguished Germanists of current times, who also reassured them that knowing German is a valuable investment for the future.
