AnotationThe project focuses on two significant yet underexplored genres of contemporary Anglophone literature - neo-Victorian fiction (Mgr. Linda Šubertová) and ecological drama (Mgr. Andrea Holešová, Ph.D.). Both genres respond to crucial social and ethical challenges of the present, including the ecological crisis, gender inequality, experiences of trauma, and the abuse of power. In these works, literature becomes a space for rethinking the relationship between humans, nature, and society, as well as for formulating new ethical and cultural perspectives. The project aims to analyse how contemporary British and American authors employ innovative narrative strategies to address social and ecological issues and how these texts contribute to shaping cultural sensitivity toward questions of sustainability and justice. The research combines literary analysis with feminist theory, eco criticism and trauma studies, thereby contributing to the development of interdisciplinary thinking within the humanities. The section devoted to neo-Victorian literature will focus primarily on the relationship between individual psychology and society, on the issues of the body, gender, and trauma, as well as on the question of how language and literary representation may conceal or expose underlying hierarchies of power. The section devoted to ecological drama will concentrate chiefly on the psychological and physical effects of environmental threats on (female) bodies. The project has both social and scholarly relevance, offering an original contribution to the study of contemporary British and American literature while simultaneously supporting the academic growth of a young researcher in the field of modern literary studies.
