Job description
An academic staff member, within the scope of their agreed-upon type of work (Professor / Associate professor / Assistant professor) performs related creative work at the centre and, at the same time, based on an appointment to the position of director of the centre, acts as a manager who organizes the activities of the research team, sets and assigns work tasks to subordinate employees, directs and supervises their work, and issues mandatory instructions for this purpose.
Qualification requirements – required
- University education in the relevant field
- Appointment as a Professor or Associate Professor, or doctoral degree in the field
- At least 5 years of scientific and research experience in the field
- Current publications with international impact
- Experience with grant projects
- Familiarity with Czech labour laws and the financial management regulations at universities
- Prerequisites for leading a team
- Excellent communication, organizational, and negotiation skills
- Independent, responsible, and proactive approach to work
- Civil and moral integrity
- Language requirements:
- Knowledge of the English language at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- Knowledge of the Czech language at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Qualification requirements – preferred
- Experience with leading a team
- Knowledge of the German or French language at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Research level
- For the position of Professor / Associate professor: EU research level: R3 – Established / R4 – Leading (research group)
- For the position of Assistant professor: R2 – Recognized
The expected form of employment
- Part-time (the extent of the part-time work to be determined by mutual agreement)
The duration of employment
- The employment contract will be concluded for a fixed term period with a 6-month probationary period. The employee will be hired as an academic staff member and will be appointed to serve as Director for a fixed term.
- If an academic staff member already employed at the Faculty of Arts is selected, there will be no change to their fixed-term employment contract; rather, they will simply be assigned to the position of Director for a fixed term.
The expected start date
- 1 November 2026 (or by agreement)
Wage conditions
- According to the Internal Wage Regulations of the University of Ostrava and also depends on the candidate′s experience

- Professional CV
- Cover letter
- Concept of development of the Centre according to the requirements specified in the structure of the Departmental Development Project – up to 5 standard pages in length
- Overview of applicant′s publications in the last 5 years
- Contacts to 2 persons who can be contacted to provide recommendations (not required of current faculty employees)
- Scanned copies of University diplomas, academic degrees obtained (not required of current faculty employees)

Information about the selection procedure
The first round of the selection process will involve the (internal) assessment of the applicants′ materials conducted by a selection committee, without the candidates being physically present.
Only selected applicants will be invited to take part in a second round of interviews.
The interview may consist of multiple rounds.
Current faculty/university employees are also eligible to participate in the selection process.
The employer reserves the right to extend, interrupt, or cancel the selection process, as well as to decide not to accept any of the candidates without stating the grounds for this decision.
