The Department of Czech Literature, Literary Theory and History of Art consists of two internal sub-departments.
The Department of Czech Literature and Literary Theory provides teaching of subjects related to Czech literary history, literary theory and comparative studies. It provides education for students of specialized degree programmes and future teachers of Czech language and literature for secondary schools, in structured Bachelor degree and Master's degree programmes. As a part of a lifelong education programme, the Department enables primary school teachers to acquire qualification for teaching at secondary schools.
Research is focused mostly on the history of Czech literature, regional literature, literary theory and literature for children.
The Department of Art History provides teaching of art history-related subjects. The Department educates students of the Bachelor degree programme ‘Art History with Focus on Care of Heritage Sites and Technical Monuments’.
The research activities of the Department focus on art history, regional sculptors and visual artists, medieval painting and heritage conservation, in particular the conservation of technical monuments.
The Department holds "post-Master’s" examinations for programmes in Czech Language and Literature, Theory and History of Czech Literature, and Cultural History. On-site and combined (part-distance) forms of study are offered by the Department for the postgraduate study of Theory and History of Czech Literature and Literary Theory - Theory and History of National Cultures. The Department can award Associate Professorships in the field of Czech Literature.
