AnotationThe Harlem Renaissance in the 21st Century project derives from contemporary research trends dealing with the multilayered identities in as well as the transnational and politically militant character of the Harlem Renaissance (1919-38), a watershed period of extraordinary flourishing of African American literature, culture, and politics. Within the fields of American and African American Studies, the Harlem Renaissance (its cultural, artistic, and political values and figures) remains a rich source of inspiration for contemporary researchers as well as artists, yet it has been underresearched in the Czech Republic, despite the pioneering monographs by Josef Jařab and Karla Kovalová. The research outcomes of this project will focus on trauma, ecofeminist, feminist, and queer theory approaches to canonical works of literature by iconic female writers of the Harlem Renaissance (Zora Neale Hurston, Nella Larsen) and their contemporary successors (Lynn Nottage). The outcomes will include 3 journal articles, 1 chapter in an edited monograph, 3 international conference presentations, and parts of one MA thesis.
