Research specialization
Research work as part of the proposed project focuses on the following specific areas of study:
- The region as a phenomenon of human activity not only in the Czech context but also as a part of Central
Europe, the inspirational role of the region in cultural and artistic production. Theoretical aspects of
these topics.
- The cultural-historical development of the region of Silesia and North-East Moravia (historical changes,
the role of cultural centres, the formation of national traditions, the relation between tradition and modern
approaches, the contemporary social status of culture, literature, art, etc.).
- The region of Silesia and North-East Moravia, its historical transformations and links to the wider European
context. Research work is focused on determining the processes contributing to the formation of the region in
the earliest historical periods, modern times and today. In particular, the structural changes which contributed
to the formation of the region in its present form are studied in terms of their limitation by national boundaries
and ethnic interests (the Czech-Polish context in Silesia).
- Culture in the region, its sources of inspiration and its overlap with nationwide entities: Artistic creation and
its links to the specific conditions of the region, literature as a phenomenon of cultural life in peripheral areas,
contacts between national cultures, specific issues of multiculturalism.
