AnotationContemporary Czech fiction frequently returns in its themes to the history of the 20th century; nevertheless, a lot of works of fiction enter into sub-genre area of chronicle novels ? the narrative covers a longer horizon of fictional time, the plot is composed and patterned in a natural chronology of days or years, it is usually showed how the lives of protagonists (and their descendants) are continuously influenced by the sequence of historical events and processes. However, for the present Czech literature is significant that the fictional pictures of our recent past are not tinted only by dramatic and tragic shades; sub-genre of chronicle novel uses in its contemporary text manifestations quite a wide variety of modalities (for example apocalyptic, satirical, ironic, grotesque or even fantastic), eventually uses their combinations. Therefore, the aproposed project focuses precisely on the modal aspects of Czech chronicle novels (published since 2000 to present) and researches the dominant artistic elements and methods that create and support the modality of this sub-genre.
