Research at the Department

The Department’s current research covers Czech literature from various periods in history, with a particular focus on literary genres, comparative literature, Czech-Polish / Czech-Slovak relations, regional aspects of literary culture, issues of space, landscape and the city, and editorial practice.

Department staff and doctoral students publish their research in specialist journals and regularly present their findings at international conferences and other forums. Department members are also involved in the doctoral programmes at Brno, Olomouc and Ústí nad Labem, as well as sitting on the editorial boards of numerous journals and academic publishers in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Staff from the Department are also members of the Centre for Regional Studies – a research team at the Faculty of Arts which focuses on regional studies, regionalism, and regional literature and culture in north-eastern Moravia and Silesia.

The Department is also home to the Vojtěch Martínek Library, an extensive collection of regional literature.
